Sotto Voce screening at SOHO International Film Festival

MJ Bernier is a NYC-based filmmaker specializing in independent narrative filmmaking and television. Her work has screened internationally, garnering multiple nominations and awards. Most recently, she co-directed Farther Along, which had its world premiere at Dances With Films NY to a sold-out crowd.

Previously, she produced Raging Doll, which won the Audience Award for Best TV Pilot at Dances With Films NY 2025; Shoulder Season, which won Best U.S. Short and Best of Fest at the Green Mountain International Film Festival; and Sotto Voce, which won Best Ensemble Performance at the SOHO International Film Festival.

Her debut short documentary, One of Many, premiered at the Academy and BAFTA-qualifying Out on Film, Atlanta’s oldest LGBTQ+ film festival, where it won Best Documentary. MJ also produces branded content and documentary work and has done so for over 15 years. Her work has been featured by Rolling Stone, Vice, Pitchfork, Filter, and Philanthropy Women. She focuses on pushing the boundaries of traditional norms in film and television while amplifying the voices of women and queer artists.
